As you slowly glide through the rows of finely tuned motor vehicles, you can’t help but think, what separates one car from the next? That is what makes the Salon Privé Concours d’Elégance so special. Each machine carries a uniquely mythical narrative. Whether that be an infamous crash followed by an immaculate restoration, or a distinguished former owner, what you see is only the tip of the iceberg. An event for everyone of all interests seen nowhere else, it is defined by champagne, fine-dining and automobiles in style. In other words, the perfect end-of-summer party.

Over 100 of the world’s rarest and most desirable cars and motorcycles roll onto the hallowed South Lawn turf of Blenheim Palace. Purported to be Europe’s premier motor vehicle celebration, the Concours d’Elégance attracts car enthusiasts and international crowds alike to applaud their favourites and partake in the competition of elegance. Occupying the first week of September each year, entrants and guests are treated to Salon Privé’s four days and nights, an extravaganza of autombiles in style, commencing with the illustrious Concours d’Elégance.

Mos recently the Best of Show winner was the 1938 model Mercedes-Benz 540 K Cabriolet. One of only 419 ever made, the gorgeous black automobile took all the plaudits with the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Villa d’Este Coupé finishing runner up.

Dating back to the 17th Century, the Concours d’Elégance was originally held in Paris with aristocrats parading their horse-drawn carriages on summer weekends. Over time, with carriages becoming horseless, this tradition has reached all corners of the world such as Lake Como and Amelia Island. In 2006, the Concours d’Elégance launched at the Hurlingham Club in London with the event proving an instant success. The rapid growth in popularity saw the competition relocate to Syon Park and then in 2015 to Blenheim Palace, where it is currently held.

Away from the captivating cars is the sumptuous style and one of the highlights of the week, Salon Privé’s Ladies’ Day. Presented by Boodles, it is an occasion to see and be seen. Style and fashion take centre stage as guests summers’ best and parade an array of marvellous hats. The resident milliner Jess Collett is never far away with a striking collection of hats for anyone who may have come empty handed. Waiting for you at every turn is a glass of delicious champagne and the finest jewellery of Boodles’ collection. With a strict dress code for both men and women, make sure to have your wardrobe finalised well in advance to wow those other guests.

The final private event of the week is the Salon Privé Club trophy, and it is by far the most exclusive. It is limited only to owners of marquees on the South Lawn and their chosen guests. Those in attendance are offered intimate access to the automotive industry’s latest releases and prototypes. An eclectic mix of the world’s most desirable car brands are showcased, including Bugatti, Rolls Royce and Morgan Motor Company. Exceptional fine dining is on offer at the beautiful Churchill Pavilion as well as an opportunity to sample a wonderful range of flavours from the concession stands.

Sensational from start to finish, the Salon Privé Concours d’Elégance will leave you exhilarated, energised and wonderfully entertained. A delicate blend of captivating cars and sumptuous style, you certainly do not need to be an automobile enthusiast to love every second of proceedings.
