The journey to St Barth is not an easy one – but, perhaps, that’s the point. The small, but mighty island exudes an air of exclusivity and, somehow, for one night a year it gets even glitzier. Gathering fashion luminaries, philanthropists, and influential personalities under one roof, the annual LuisaViaRoma x UNICEF fundraising gala is a symphony of sophistication. The event offers a place where celebrities, the powerful, and people of privilege unite behind a common cause.

Transcending mere extravagance, a powerful union of fashion and philanthropy comes to life as LuisaViaRoma, the trailblazing online retailer, joins hands with UNICEF, the global champion for children’s rights. The two international giants, each with their unique spheres of influence, partner every year to making a meaningful impact on young lives worldwide. Through innovative events, exclusive entertainment, and collaborative fundraising initiatives, LuisaViaRoma x UNICEF is a force to be reckoned with, breaking down barriers to create a better future for children in need. It’s a dynamic alliance that bridges the worlds of luxury and humanitarianism, while also putting on one of the most buzzworthy parties of the year.

“After four successful editions of the charity summer gala in Porto Cervo, Sardinia and in Capri, we decided it was time to introduce a winter edition, without losing the essence of summer,” said Andrea Panconesi, the president and founder of LuisaViaRoma, in reference to the evolution of the retailer’s fundraisers for UNICEF. Born from a vision of creating positive change in the lives of vulnerable children worldwide, the remarkable partnership between the renowned fashion retailer and the global humanitarian organization took shape in the pursuit of a shared mission. The event concept first arose as a way of leveraging the influence of the fashion industry and the power of luxury to make a difference in the world. Since the inaugural 2018 gala in Sardinia’s Porto Cervo, the now bi-annual event—hosted in Capri and St Barth—generates an unparalleled buzz.

St Barth’s Emeraude Hotel Sets the Scene

As evening descended on a recent gala, a wave of Hollywood’s brightest stars stepped through Emeraude Hotel’s grand entrance, a venue aptly chosen for its embodiment of luxury and charm. Situated amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Caribbean island, the exclusive hotel offers a haven of sophistication and elegance, perfectly complementing the night’s fusion of fashion and philanthropy. By 8 PM, a cocktail hour commenced the event, introducing a sprinkle of the night’s auction highlights— from AI-generated artwork by Refik Anadol and a Northern lights experience with polar explorer Johan Ernst Nilson to Steve McQueen’s own 1961 Formula junior race car. After mingling and perusing the available items, patrons took their seats in an unassuming dinner tent fit for over 500 guests. Inside an ethereal atmosphere took command of the room, dotted with candle-lit tables and bathed in a soft blue light evocative of the surrounding waters.

Live Auctions and Entertainment Take Center Stage

With an air of excitement, the evening’s auctioneer Simon de Pury takes the stage, rousing up the audience for the exquisite offerings ahead. Enhanced by some celebrity assistance, the heart of the event was underway. Rita Ora presented a work by artist Chris Levine, cleverly pairing it with an acapella rendition of ABBA’s “Money, Money, Money”. Event co-chair and model Karolina Kurkova spoke to the significance of a painting by Soraya Sharghi in the context of Iran’s current geopolitical situation. Once the bids were in and the clock struck midnight, out came Lenny Kravitz for a musical finale that had guests dancing atop their chairs. And just when it seemed there could be no better crescendo to the night, Drake kept the party going with his most beloved hits and a performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, for which he encouraged audience participation. Carrying a message of hope and unity, the universally known tune brought together every age and nationality in the room for a shared moment that embodied the essence of the event.

"

"Emotions swell and tears glisten in the eyes of the audience as they witness the profound difference their presence and support can make in the lives of those in need."

The UNICEF Effect

Throughout the evening, video presentations and moving testimonials shed light on the impact of UNICEF’s work, highlighting the very real stories of children whose lives have been transformed by the organization’s initiatives. Emotions swell and tears glisten in the eyes of the audience as they witness the profound difference their presence and support can make in the lives of those in need. Silent auction bids and charitable pledges abound, attendees dug deep into their generous pockets, embracing the opportunity to have a hand in UNICEF’s effect (and the bragging creds that come with it). Lest we forget the night is not just about glamour and grandeur; it’s about giving back.

Year after year, this event only grows in stature, attracting the most influential figures in the business for a brighter tomorrow. The live auction, a testament to generosity, raises funds that breathe life into UNICEF’s impactful initiatives, creating a ripple effect that reverberates far beyond the confines of the venue. Through mesmerizing performances and moving testimonials, attendees are reminded of their participation’s profound impact. The annual LuisaViaRoma x UNICEF gala is more than just a glamorous affair; it’s an acknowledgment of the power of collective action and the potential for change. It’s an event that’s two-fold—one where fashion becomes a force for change, and St Barth, for a moment, becomes a beacon of hope for the world.
