The platform swarms with activity as smartly dressed passengers board the train. Once guests are seated, liveried stewards appear with cocktails and excited chatter fills the carriages. As the train glides out of the station guests marvel at the cuisine placed in front of them as their adventure begins. The lights of the city transform into rolling hills, and a painting designed by nature emerges as the train ventures into the countryside. This is the setting of some of the greatest novels and movies of all time. Northern Belle Interior

Built by the Orient Express and launched in 2000 after the meticulous restoration of the train’s thirteen carriages, the Northern Belle boasts a classic art deco interior including plush fabrics, original artwork and bespoke cutlery on the finely dressed tables. This work was carried out by experts including mosaic artists and muralists who contributed to the unique design of each coach, named after stately homes and castles across Britain. Attention to detail is of paramount importance when it comes to the preservation of vintage carriages, to evoke the same sense of luxury that passengers experienced during the golden age of travel in the 1930s. During this time, the rich and famous travelled in style predominantly from London to the south coast or to board Trans-Atlantic ships. Today the Northern Belle luxury train offers signature journeys around the country from the ‘West Highland Lunch,’ to ‘Historic Torquay at Leisure’. Experiences vary from visiting the location of the classic 1940s film Brief Encounter at Carnforth station, to a quintessentially English Champagne afternoon tea at several locations nationwide.

Edinburgh Royal Yacht

The Northern Belle’s Edinburgh Royal Yacht excursion begins with a scenic journey through the countryside to the enchanting capital city of Scotland. Upon arrival at the historic yacht in the Port of Leith, guests are treated like royalty as they embark on the vessel that transported the late Queen Elizabeth II to over 900 state visits during her reign entertaining guests from around the world. After a guided tour to learn about the ship’s momentous history, there are five decks onboard to explore, including the state apartments and the sunroom, which was the Queen’s favourite room to enjoy breakfast. Guests can view many original belongings including paintings, furniture and photographs of the royal family on loan from the Royal Collection. This iconic vessel, beloved by the family who sailed in her, entertained presidents, prime ministers and royalty during Queen Elizabeth’s reign and provides a fascinating insight into the royal family. Famous guests included Nelson Mandela and Winston Churchill, and the yacht also played host to royal honeymoons for Princess Margaret and Prince Charles. The former royal residence served the royals for 44 years, sailing over one million miles to countries across the globe which led to its status as one of the most famous ships in the world.

The gourmet menu also includes an award-winning British cheese selection served with port followed by dessert, Fortnum and Mason tea or Northern Belle’s blend of coffee to finish.
