The St. Barth Gourmet Festival is one of the French-Caribbean island’s greatest markers of its steady and inspirational breakthrough. Now appearing better than ever, enticing hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, St. Barths is thriving. One of its annual charms is this prestigious festival of fine dining.

Gourmet Festival

Beginning back in 2014, the St. Barth Gourmet Festival was founded as a means of showcasing the French outpost’s culinary genius to its community. It has since become one of the island’s most unmissable events, held every year in St. Barth’s capital Gustavia during November. It is now a prominent affair in the international culinary calendar and attracts masses of connoisseurs from all over the world.

The St. Barth Gourmet Festival was begun by the Saint Barthélemy Tourism Committee as a celebration of French gastronomy. Each year, the festival is sponsored by one of the many French Michelin-starred participants. Some of France’s finest chefs leave behind their own starred kitchens to spend a week on the island bestowing luxury multi-course tasting dinners. But the festival not only celebrates worldwide talent, it highlights the expertise of the local maestros holding down the island’s world-class restaurants and hotels. Together, these local and international culinary artists conjure an unforgettable week of fantastic food and drink.

The St. Barth Gourmet Festival of first-class cuisine and flavour offers something for all. Its varied schedule boasts a glamorous, invitation-only opening ceremony on its first day, followed by several days of collaborative culinary brilliance. The festival’s featured chefs showcase their menus across several haute restaurants. Attendees find themselves in beautiful dining rooms, overlooking the island. Softly lit and ventilated by the gentle ocean breeze, the restaurants present their guests with subtle appetisers and sophisticated main courses. The Gourmet Festival’s visitors can expect to enjoy the edible erudition of the likes of Pierre Gagnaire, who was the festival’s patron chef in 2021. Of course, reservations for these one-of-a-kind tasting menu dinners are strongly advised.

Although St. Barth Gourmet Festival’s main event is its fine dining experiences, there are other light-hearted competitive events to be enjoyed, all open to the public as well as the festival’s guests. Among these are bartenders’ and waiters’ competitions hosted by Enjoy St. Barths, putting the island’s best and most hospitable stewards to the ultimate test. “Petites Toques St Barth” is an amateur pastry competition to delight the tastebuds of its judging panel of some of France’s finest patisserie chefs. Past judges include the likes of Sébastien Vauxion and Marcel Ravin. Of course, the week comes to a close with an all-important awards ceremony, hosted in front of the Hotel de la Collectivité, Gustavia’s beautiful former town hall.

If St. Barth Gourmet Festival’s irresistible array of fine dining and luxury drinking is not enough to evoke itchy feet, the island is an emerald floating on a sapphire pool. With bright white beaches dividing magnificent green from beautiful blue, St. Barths is a dream destination for the discerning traveller.
