Famous for its sensational natural beauty, Wales’ rolling hills, majestic peaks, enchanting woodlands and picturesque valleys are generously sprinkled across the landscape. A vivid blanket of greenery covers the land here, stretching towards the horizon as it undulates over the crests and troughs of neighbouring Snowdonia National Park. Aside from twittering birdsong and tinkling streams, all is quiet at Palé Hall.

At the edge of Snowdonia stands a quiet retreat where you can indulge in fine cuisine and elegant accommodation. Palé Hall is a luxury country house hotel set within the hilly landscape of North Wales. Redolent of the halcyon days of the 19th century, this architectural pearl is steeped in history and charm. Its tranquil surroundings, sumptuous rooms and exceptional food make Palé Hall one of the UK’s most delightful stays.

"Some rooms are complemented by paisley décor and oriental-themed furnishings while others feature bateaux baths and rich wood design. However, a sense of elegance and tranquillity unites them all."

The hall was built in 1871 for railway engineer Henry Robertson, replacing an old manor house in Llandderfel that had fallen into disrepair. During her tour of North Wales in 1889, Queen Victoria stayed at Palé Hall for ten days, even prolonging her stay after falling in love with the grounds. She enjoyed strolling through the enchanting estate and neighbouring riverbank, as you can too. The Queen’s Walk has been marked out so that guests can follow in the footsteps of the famous royal visitor.

Palé Hall offers 18 bedrooms and four garden suites; each has a different character, but all exude opulence and charm. Some rooms are complemented by paisley décor and oriental-themed furnishings while others feature bateaux baths and rich wood design. However, a sense of elegance and tranquillity unites them all. Bright and airy spaces with panoramic views of the garden and valley as well as the Berwyn Mountains await visitors to Palé Hall.

Queen Victoria was offered the most lavish room in the hall during her stay. At the time, this simply meant one that included a bathroom with plumbing. Today, the Victoria room features the same bed and bath set that the queen used during her visit although the room has been modernised to the standards of today’s affluent traveller. Plush towelling bathrobes, complimentary Welsh mead and luxe toiletries are some of the perks of every room at the hotel.

"Award-winning cuisine and sumptuous rooms are the face of the experience, but it is the feeling of pure luxury that makes it a place where you can truly relax. "

Head chef Gareth Stevenson is at the helm of the exceptional culinary experience at Palé Hall. His dedication to the restaurants has been rewarded with a 3 Rosette award for culinary excellence. There are several dining options to choose from at Palé Hall. The theatrical Venice Room is equipped with its original range and finished with dazzling crystal chandeliers and gleaming Venetian mirrors. A family-oriented space, groups with children of any age can tuck into delicious food here from either the fine dining or bistro menus.

The Henry Robertson Dining Room is Palé Hall’s fine dining restaurant and hosts afternoon tea. Designed to make a statement, this elegant and ornate room is set off by elaborate plaster ceilings and a marble fireplace. Here, you can enjoy a masterfully created taster menu consisting of fresh, local and seasonal produce. Creative flavour combinations and eye-catching presentation make each of Stevenson’s dishes a work of art.

Whether you are seeking relaxation or activity, a stay at Palé Hall offers no shortage of options. Situated in one of the most stunning natural landscapes in the UK, the hall’s surrounding area is brimming with opportunities to explore and discover the country’s historical and cultural offerings. The glimmering pearl of the area is Mount Snowdon; the highest point in Wales is accessible on foot or by rack-and-pinion railway and offers breathtaking views of the landscapes that so inspired Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien. At ground level, you’ll find a host of castles and historic buildings that tell the thrilling tales of a country rich with legends and stories.

Palé Hall offers expertly guided tours of North Wales complete with a private vehicle and driver. Choose from outings including The Best of North Wales, North Wales Castles, and Hidden Gems of North Wales. After a day of exploration, sink into your comfortable bed and indulge in the hotel’s 24-hour room service.

Down a winding country road in a serene, wooded area lies Palé Hall, one of Wales’ most opulent stays. This elegant and stately hotel, once beloved by Queen Victoria, offers an experience fit for a royal. Award-winning cuisine and sumptuous rooms are the face of the experience, but it is the feeling of pure luxury that makes it a place where you can truly relax.
