‘It’s truly a place for artists of all types’,  says actor BJ Novak while describing the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s one of the Big Apple’s greatest events. If you are interested in spending your days exploring new and independent films, then this festival is the perfect event. It’s also known for its representation of emerging and well-established artists, making it a hub for art enthusiasts. But even if you just want to people-watch in New York City, Tribeca Festival is the place to be, and you might even run into Ryan Reynolds.

The Tribeca Film Festival – now the Tribeca Festival – is a renowned event in the film industry that takes place annually in New York City. It is known for its curated premiers of film, episodic events, talks, music, art, and also games and immersive programming. It was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff to help revitalize and rebuild lower Manhattan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Since then, it has grown to become one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, showcasing a diverse range of films and events.

Fast forward to two decades later, the Tribeca Festival is once again playing a crucial role in the city’s recovery, this time from the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, they are organising events that extend beyond the Tribeca area to a diverse range of venues both indoors and outdoors, throughout the city. Tribeca hosts over 600 screenings with nearly 150,000 attendees and presents awards to independent artists in 23 juried categories. It also boasts a great music repertoire. Since its genesis in 2002, the festival has celebrated music like no other. TRIBECA’S ROOTS

Until 2020, the festival was known as the Tribeca Film Festival and was then changed and rebranded to Tribeca Festival to give a nod to its inclusion of art, games and many more arenas.

A CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE

In recent years, the Tribeca Festival has featured many acclaimed films that have gone on to achieve critical and commercial success. For example, in 2019, the festival premiered The Apollo, a documentary about the legendary Harlem theatre that was directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Roger Ross Williams. The film received rave reviews and went on to win an Emmy award. Another notable film was Blow the Man Down, a dark comedy set in a small fishing village in Maine. The film was directed by Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy and won the Best Screenplay award at the festival.
