In the beautiful county of Cornwall, stands an incredible Grade II Listed building and Parkland. We are talking about Mount Edgcumbe.

World War II caused significant damage to Mount Edgcumbe, which was built in 1547.

Discovering the Gardens

Lets start off with the Gardens. Mount Egecumbe have 13 elegant gardens that show through different layers from the 16th century to their modern Black Bee Reserve. The gardens are as follows; English, French, Italian, New Zealand, American, The Earl’s, Fern Dell, Jubilee, Relic, Deer, Knot, Rose, and The Black Bee Reserve.

French Garden

A beautiful creation of the Regency period of around 1803. This garden is geometrically designed to truly reflect on this period of time. The flowerbeds are beautifully trimmed and visually appealing, and the shell fountain you see at its center makes it an awesome spot to stop and look at.

English Garden

This garden was created at the end of the 18th century. Informed with a variation of trees, shrubberies and flower beds style out, the garden reflects truly on the natural English landscape.

It’s obvious by the detail in the picture that the shrubs and trees are ancient yet still alive and flourishing today. Some of which were not native to this land including cork oaks, palms, and magnolias.

Mount Edgcumbe House

Take a historical walk through this decorative and stylish home and take in the fantastic views that surround. The property itself has been an icon for many inspirationally stunning paintings. A number of famous artists came from Mount Edgcumbe house, including Sir Joshua Reynolds, Gerard Edema, and Willem Van De Velde.

In the current Covid.19 world that we are in, the access to The House and Earl’s Garden is through guided tours, and we recommend to call in advance to book as they are running at a limited capacity. They are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday between April to the end of September from 11am-4:30pm. The last entries in the House are at 4 p.m.

Mount Edgcumbe House was built for the views from the inside. There are some beautiful examples of furniture, sculptures and decorative objects, some which are rare and some which were collected by the family over the centuries.
