Thomas Mann, the celebrated German novelist, once said that ‘at the Frankfurter Hof I have realized the meaning of a real grand hotel again.’ His analysis still rings true today. Everything about the Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof says ‘grand’; from its high ceilings and elegant décor to its exuberant wellness centre and award-winning restaurant. No expense has been spared.

Steigenberger Icons are set in exciting and convenient destinations, surrounded by the most stylish and exclusive neighbourhoods. The Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof is no different. Situated in the heart of Frankfurt’s financial district, the hotel is within comfortable walking distance of the Maintower, Römer and Paulskirche as well as some of the city’s most dynamic districts. Lending an element of tradition to an increasingly modern metropolis, the hotel’s nostalgic atmosphere is refreshing. Taking inspiration from 17th-century architectural trends as well as modern influences, the Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof offers delicate and classical features with a contemporary flair.

The Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof was completed in 1876, four years after the first stone was laid. From the start, the hotel’s state-of-the-art lifts, modern heating system and impressive interior and exterior design drew crowds from around the world, including renowned hoteliers and critics. Rumour has it that the establishment was the first in the whole of Germany to install electric lights. Unfortunately, after the Second World War, only its facades remained following frequent bombing. Nonetheless, both the building and its reputation were restored and the Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof is once again a cornerstone of the luxury hotel industry. It has welcomed famous figures including Queen Victoria and, more recently, Elton John and the Rolling Stones.

All 267 rooms and 36 suites feature striking views of Frankfurt. Bold patterns and warm tones balance the elegant drapes and furnishings. Plush bedding is a guarantee and guests can relax into a host of cosy pillows and blankets. In the Junior Suite, modernity triumphs over classical although some timeless design elements remain. Here, visitors will find polished wood panelling and traditional trimmings contrasting with modern custom lighting and eye-catching motifs throughout the lounge area. The Grand Deluxe room carries the same wood panelling and a darker colour palette and features a luxury bathroom that is a staple of every room, boasting twin vanities and marble surfaces throughout, exuding opulence and evoking a sense of calm. With all the features expected of a sumptuous stay, each unit offers a flat-screen TV, free wifi and luxury toiletries.

The hotel’s Autorenbar, or ‘Author’s Bar’, is a timeless location for refined relaxation where guests can enjoy a drink among the city’s financial experts and even authors and publishers during the famous annual book fair. With timeless and sophisticated decor, the bar features leather armchairs, brimming bookshelves and crystal decanters. Visitors of Oscar’s Brasserie Moderne can enjoy a Royal High Tea or a sumptuous meal created by the talented kitchen team. Dishes take on an international flavour and range from delicious shellfish to succulent burgers. The true culinary delight, however, is the Restaurant Français. A charming and elegant space, the Restaurant Français is more than deserving of its coveted Michelin star and offers impeccable service in its two rooms boasting crystal chandeliers and crisp white tablecloths. Dishes here are characterised by their meticulous presentation and bold flavours.

In the heart of Frankfurt’s financial district lies the Steigenberger Icon Frankfurter Hof, one of the German city’s most opulent stays.
