Since the fifteenth century golf has been played at St Andrews. In 1552 the Links became an officially recognised location for the sport when the St Andrews Links Charter was signed by Archbishop Hamilton, referring to the public ownership of the links and the right of the public to play golf and other games. The term Links derives from the English word hlinc which means rising ground and refers to sandy areas along the coast. Most true links courses are found in Scotland, Ireland, and England. The game was founded on sandy soil because it drains well offering a firmer surface than heathland or parkland courses. The Old Course at St Andrews offers a great example of a true links course, and with its world-class facilities, it’s clear why this is a dream day out for fans of the game. For over 600 years the greatest golfers in the world have played at St Andrews, from Bobby Jones who won the Claret Jug in 1927, to Tiger Woods who declared, “To win at St Andrews is the ultimate,” after achieving a career grand slam in 2000.

At the beginning of the day, each player will discuss their goals and what they are aiming to achieve with their dedicated PGA Golf Professional. This is followed by a video analysis lesson designed to help players settle before the highlight of the day when they play at St Andrews Links. What makes this experience exceptional is the expert advice provided during play, tailored to each individual and their ability. With experience on all the courses, St Andrews for Golf Professionals help golfers to relax and provide advice to improve their technique during the day’s play. This insight provides invaluable guidance for an enjoyable experience whilst enhancing each player’s game. After the completion of 18 holes, a review of video analysis provides further feedback whilst players reflect on their day whilst taking in the picturesque views at the ‘19th Hole’ overlooking St Andrews.
