As Gertrude Stein said: “America is my country and Paris is my hometown”. Paris has a knack for adopting its visitors. And Maison Mere echoes this Parisian sentiment with a gracious aim to provide a ‘second home’ in every room. Hospitality, homeliness, and luxury culminate to create a unique standard of hotel relaxation. Luxury is truly found in the thoughtful details, and there are plenty of details to indulge in during a stay at Maison Mere. Who could possibly blame you for making Paris your new hometown?

Maison Mere is situated on an aesthetic Parisian street in the 9th arrondissement. This image shows the upper street view with a series of balconies.

Maison Mere is located centrally in action-packed Paris yet somehow cultivates the impression of outskirt tranquility. In the 9th arrondissement, the hotel sits on a traditional rue, with towering white buildings and black railing balconies running the length of the side street. Only a fifteen-minute walk from Montmartre and two minutes from the Metro, Maison Mere offers centrality in the surroundings of peaceful and aesthetic Parisian architecture.

Paris is a birthplace of luxury hospitality. However, Maison Mere is relatively new to the hotelier scene, officially opening its doors in June 2020. The hotel concept is the creation of Aziz Temimi. Temimi took the inspiration of a ‘Mother’s House’ from his childhood experience as a hotel owner’s son. “I grew up in hotels, playing in corridors and running around for the disgrace of the housekeepers, observing my parents, the staff, processes and customers.” Aziz Temimi tells an interviewer. Temimi pioneers an attentive, thoughtful hotel experience – mirroring the luxury of a mother’s care.

Of course, luxury doesn’t alleviate the difficulty of certain choices. Maison Mere has six room types for guests to pick from, ranging in size from the cosy rooms to the friends and family suite. Paris isn’t generally known for spacious rooms, but Maison Mere’s are of respectably comfortable size.

The friends and family suite is a godsend when traveling in large groups. The suite sleeps up to six guests and is split spaciously across two rooms. The split rooms are ideal for families looking to balance privacy and connection for older children and parents. And, for groups of friends exploring Paris, the suite maximises independent space for when guests need downtime. In a sweet policy, canine members of the family aren’t excluded from luxury stays either. Maison Mere welcomes dogs to certain room types, so don’t immediately rule out your pets from a trip to Paris.

If you are travelling in a smaller company, the Parisienne Au Balcon rooms are an excellent choice for a slice of sophistication and a ‘resolutely French’ experience. This room type features Parisian balconies overlooking the rue below – creating the perfect outdoor space for a morning coffee or late-night glass of vino. Inside, Maison Mere’s attention to detail shines clearly through. From the touch-screen temperature control panel to the welcome message propped gently on your bed, Maison Mere doesn’t miss opportunities to gift the luxury of choice and personalisation.

The Parisienne Au Balcon rooms feature roomy en-suite bathrooms. The en-suite is complete with a rain shower, LED bathroom mirror, and a specialised LED makeup mirror. Guests can relax with plenty of thoughtful bathroom amenities. For curly-haired guests, Maison Mere even provides a separate hair dryer diffuser attachment for specialist drying treatment.

Along the bed’s headboard, there is a private display of artwork to appreciate. And, for further information on each piece, guests can enjoy a virtual exhibition on the room’s complimentary tablet. You can also use the tablet to explore nearby attractions, make reservations at the in-house restaurant Hey Honey, and keep in touch with friends or family. While, for entertainment, an ultra-sized flat-screen TV has a full range of channels streamed from various countries.

With all the comforts of your chosen room, it can be tempting to make use of the room service and settle in for the night. However, try to resist this temptation.

You can make a reservation for Maison Mere’s in-house fusion restaurant, Hey Honey, via your room’s tablet, reception, or the restaurant itself. While you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Hey Honey, it’s dinner that we recommend you prioritise. The night menu provides a quality selection of fine dining dishes designed and prepared by Chef Santiago Guerrero and his team.

For a starter, perhaps the ‘Tacos de Cactus’? The tacos include an unusually creative yet delicious concoction of cactus and 18-month comte cheese. Alternatively, delve into a seafood starting platter like the octopus, served with chickpeas, plums, and chimichurri.

In the selection of main courses, there are dishes to suit a variety of dietary requirements, including vegan and vegetarian. Vegetarians may wish to consider the ‘Oyster Mushroom Ravioli’, which comes served in a creamy sauce with portobello and a decorative sprinkling of hazelnuts. Of course, if fine meat is more to your taste, the ‘Duck Filet’ may be your preferred option. The duck is served with gratin dauphinoise, a drizzling of black beer sauce, and pistachios to finish.

Dessert is the crème de la creme of the dining experience at Hey Honey, with sweet and savoury options to consider. The ‘Ossau Iraty Cheese’ is an excellent choice for the savory lovers amongst guests. The cheese board comes with an accompanying basket of thick bread and a pot of jalapeno jam.

As impressive as its menu is, dinner at Hey Honey is far from just a fine dining experience. The restaurant hosts a number of high-calibre guests for diner’s entertainment, including the regular burlesque nights. Guests at Maison Mere are notified of the entertainment available at Hey Honey on their personalised welcome card and through the room’s tablet. Although, you can also enquire directly at reception or Hey Honey’s bar for calendar details.

Hey Honey also welcomes guests to its cocktail bar for a tipple or two. The bar is run by a talented number of passionate bartenders, attentive and happy to guide you through the venue’s many beverage options. Indulge in a glass of French wine, a pint of pale ale, or treat yourself to a speciality cocktail. True to its dedication to experience, Hey Honey’s cocktail menu is delivered on a set of tarot cards delivered in a velvet pouch.

Guests can keep it classic with a negroni, cosmopolitan, or mai tai. Or, you can draw a tarot card to receive a cocktail recommendation – complete with an artistic breakdown of the associated emotion, inspirations behind the drink, and the sensation it instils. One such card, titled insouciance (the taste of childhood), recommends a whiskey-based cocktail made from Monkey’s Shoulder. The cocktail is infused with popcorn and mixed with apple, cardamom, and lemon in a fun, childhood twist.

Hey Honey treads the expert line between timeless, innovative, and entertainment-focused hospitality. For guests at Maison Mere, it’s recommendable to carve out an evening of your Paris itinerary to dedicate to a full Hey Honey dining experience. Fine dining at Hey Honey is a trendy, sociable, and indulgent process, and the last thing you want is to be rushed.

It is easy to see that Maison Mere is a place that combats the concept of all work and no play. However, the hotel does promote a healthy balance of both. With the motto ‘home is where the wi-fi connects’, Maison Mere supports professionals in fulfilling responsibilities in a true home-from-home fashion.

Guests receive complimentary access to a bespoke co-working space, conveniently located just behind reception on the ground floor. The room features high-speed wi-fi, a smart TV, and numerous USB and power sockets throughout the workspaces. Reclining on the chesterfield couch or perching at the worktop bar with window views of Paris will definitely soften the blow of working during your stay at Maison Mere.

Paris may become your hometown, but Maison Mere remains a ‘Mother’s House’. A place to unwind in the luxury of innovation, personalisation, and thoughtful amenities, Maison Mere suits travellers of all visit purposes and group types. Despite only opening its doors in 2020, it’s easy to understand the logic behind the hotel’s rapidly developing success. For the ultimate experience of luxury hospitality, Maison Mere is a stellar accommodation option for visitors to Paris.
